I believe it’s important for children and parents to see their cultures represented in their child care setting. Children learn about diverse cultures by celebrating diverse holidays; eating delicious foods; singing and dancing to music from around the world; and speaking many languages. When children have a sense of belonging, they build a positive identity as well as empathy, creativity and independence. I also believe that to support children’s social and emotional well-being, their child care provider must foster a culture of tolerance, understanding and open communication with children’s families.
